Historic Richmond Town

Historic Richmond Town is New York's only historic village restoration. It was created by the Staten Island Historical Society in 1939 when it acquired and restored the Voorlezer's House (c. 1695), the oldest surviving elementary school in the century. Today the village includes over 100 acres with more than two dozen historic buildings dating from the 17th to the 20th centuries that stood on or were moved to the property. The houses represent a variety of architectural styles from a stately Greek Revival courthouse to a 19th century one-room general store. Visitors can see the daily trades and customs of Richmond Town reenacted in many of the historic houses. Museum exhibits illustrated the developing borough of Richmond with folk art, costumes, textile, and tools. Call Richmond Town for information: (718) 351-1617.
