DIY Mortar-Planter Workshop

Thursday, May 22, 2025

5:00 p.m.7:00 p.m.

Join Eric Thomann for a hands-on workshop inspired by techniques he discovered during his travels in Central America. Learn how to create durable 2 to 4-gallon mortar planters using infused landscape fabric and mortar mix. These solid, stylish planters are built to last a lifetime! GreenThumb will provide all the supplies you need, and participants will leave with their handcrafted planters and a bag of mortar mix to continue creating at home. Bring a large bag to carry your new planters and materials. This workshop is a perfect opportunity to combine craftsmanship with gardening—don’t miss it!

NYC Parks GreenThumb hosts this event. We are proud to be the nation’s most extensive urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City. With GreenThumb’s support, community gardens are centers of environmental justice, ensuring that our city is fairer, safer, and greener for all. GreenThumb’s events are free and open to the public.
