Volunteer Workday: Phoenix Community Garden
Saturday, February 8, 2025
10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
GreenThumb community gardens are developed, led, and cared for by dedicated volunteers who critically upkeep community gardens as public green spaces.
Since 2006, Phoenix Community Garden in Ocean Hill-Brownsville, Brooklyn, has been growing thousands of pounds of culturally-preferred fruits and vegetables each year to support the local community. The garden provides a seasonal Fresh Food Box, a large gathering space, and hosts various events for the Ocean Hill-Brownsville community.
During this volunteer workday, participants will take part in an impactful, hands-on project to build raised garden beds, expanding the garden's capacity to grow fresh food. Gardeners are excited to share their knowledge and foster new connections. Bring water, snacks, and comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing. Please note that some activities may involve lifting heavy material and moving, bending, and squatting for long periods.
In case of inclement weather, this volunteer workday will be rescheduled to Sunday, February 9, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
