Grafting Workshop: Transforming Trees for Desired Fruit
Wednesday, March 19, 2025
11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Join our hands-on tree grafting workshop with Will Thompson! You will learn how to graft a fruiting scion onto an ornamental or less desirable tree. We will start by finding an area with Rosaceae family trees, like apples, pears, plums, and cherries. We will select the right scions and learn about tree biology related to grafting. The workshop will cover essential tools and different grafting techniques, including cleft, bark, whip tongue, and saddle grafts. You will practice cutting a branch from a rootstock tree and attaching the new scion. This workshop is perfect for urban gardeners and anyone looking to enhance their gardening skills and revive their trees.
NYC Parks GreenThumb hosts this event. We are proud to be the nation’s most extensive urban community gardening program, sustaining over 550 gardens throughout New York City.
