City of Forest Day: Idlewild Park Natural Area Restoration

Volunteer with the NYC Parks Stewardship Team for City of Forest Day across New York City! Join NYC Parks in Idlewild Park as we celebrate our love of NYC’s urban forest and help steward the land. Volunteers will contribute to ongoing restoration work and learn the importance of species diversity to ecosystem health. Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long sleeves, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Face masks may be worn at your discretion. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone. This event has been funded in part by NOAA. To sign up a group of 10 or more volunteers please reach out to stewardship@parks.nyc.gov.

Paerdegat Basin Park
Ecology Park is a five acre site set within Paerdegat Basin Park. The goal of the park is to promote habitat restoration and ecological improvement, highlighting fourteen native plant community types that exist or once existed in New York City.

Ecology Park is only open at certain times of year when Parks staff are present in order to protect this unique landscape. Want to visit? Check out our Stewardship Projects page for restoration, planting, and educational events.
