College Point Fields

Jimmy Sandorf Field

This text is part of Parks’ Historical Signs Project and can be found posted within the park.

This field is named in honor of Jimmy Sandorf who lived several blocks away and regularly played baseball in this park. A member of the College Point Little League Senior Division, Sandorf passed away suddenly in May 1964 at the age of 15. On July 4, 1964, the field was renamed Jimmy Sandorf Field with a dedication attended by more than 350 children and as many adults.

College Point Fields was assigned to NYC Parks in 1996 and its Little League fields reopened to the public on April 17, 2004 after a major restoration. This field is a fitting legacy for a young man who was dedicated to the game of baseball.
