Vernam Barbadoes Peninsula
Horseshoe Crab Walk and Coastal Cleanup in the Rockaways
Thursday, May 15, 2025
10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Volunteer with the Stewardship Team to protect coastal areas in the Vernam Barbadoes Peninsula! This coastal cleanup coincides with the high tide full moon high tide, which marks the beginning of the annual horseshoe crab spawning season in Jamaica Bay. Volunteers will get the opportunity to witness this incredible natural event and help us remove debris from the coastline, thereby creating a healthier ecosystem. Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone. To sign up a group of 10 or more volunteers, please reach out to stewardship@parks.nyc.gov.
This project is funded by the New York State Department of State under Title 11 of the Environmental Protection Fund.
