Canarsie Park Hiking Trails

A walk through Canarsie Park’s trails takes you past the active athletic fields and cricket pitches to an unparalleled natural shoreline vista. Head out on the trails of this large park to discover its wetlands, hike along a spur to find a quiet shoreline, and take in the views of Jamaica Bay and the Manhattan skyline.

Blue Trail: The Canarsie blue loop trail is just over half a mile long and circles the wetland area at the eastern side of Canarsie Park. The trail begins on the eastern side of the circular cricket pitch adjacent to the playground. The first section passes along the bike trail at the south end of the wetland before turning north onto a sandy path through an area of restored native shrubs and grasses. The trail turns back to the west, passing a small trail spur that leads down to the shoreline and offers a view of the water, where ducks and geese are often found. The trail then connects to the paved trails of the park and turns south going uphill. At the top of the hill are a sitting area and scenic overlook, with views of Jamaica Bay and the surrounding neighborhoods, as well as Manhattan in the distance. Continuing south, the trail heads back downhill through a meadow and connects back to the cricket pitch where the loop began.
