Family, Friends And Colleagues Plant Tree In Memory of CPW Della Franklin
On Tuesday, May 3, 2016, a tree was planted in a shady grove in Gorman Park in Queens to honor deceased Parkie Della Franklin. Members of Della’s family, co-workers from Queens District 3 and friends all braved the inclement weather to attend the event.
Della, a 30-year veteran of Parks passed away suddenly on New Year’s Day. Her career at Parks is a testament to her dedication and sense of pride for the job she did. Although she began her career as a City Seasonal Aide, it wasn’t long before her strong work ethic earned her the opportunity to work year-round as a Crew Chief. In 2006, Della was officially given the Crew Chief title and continued to be an asset to the neighborhoods of Elmhurst, Jackson Heights and North Corona. Anyone who has ever worked with her will tell you that she had a no nonsense attitude and genuine leadership style which afforded her an enormous amount of respect from her subordinates and colleagues alike.
Della’s daughter Keisha Franklin was on hand to help plant the tree as well as Borough Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski, PRM Eric Goetz, PS John Flynn and a number of Della’s close colleagues. We hope the tree will provide solace to the family as we try to give back some of what Della gave to the Parks Department.
