The Greenbelt Native Plant Center (GNPC), a facility of the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, is a 13–acre greenhouse, nursery, and seed bank complex located on Staten Island, NY.
Products & Services
The Greenbelt Native Plant Center serves land managers and restorationists with the nursery material appropriate for their project and most compatible with surrounding natural habitats.
In addition to providing local ecotypic material, we want to see that the right plants are used in the right habitats. Our staff has extensive knowledge of the local ecosystems of the region—our seed collectors alone log thousands of hours each year in the field.
We are available to assist professional designers and restorationists, as well as local community park volunteers and support groups, in selecting appropriate plant material. We are eager to be of assistance and invite you to contact us to help in any way we can in making plant selections for your project.
There are over 2,000 species of plants native to the greater New York City area. Which species are currently under cultivation at the GNPC is largely driven by the projects we are servicing and by changing demand. Please review our catalog to see the full range of species we produce, then contact us for current availability.
