Description: Join us for a day of gardening! Tasks may include transplanting, weeding, seeding, and other outdoor nursery activities. We will also care for GNPC’s shared vegetable garden! Volunteers will work on planting, care, harvesting and trellising, while learning about sustainable vegetable production. Our tasks will depend on the demands of the season. Depending on the interests of the group, we can also discuss soil health and best practices, crop planning, intercropping and companion planting, and more! All experience levels are welcome, and volunteers will be able to take vegetables home once harvesting starts. Please come prepared for inclement weather outdoors, sturdy footwear, and long-sleeved shirts that can get dirty. It is also recommended to wear a hat and bring sunscreen. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. To sign up a group of 10 or more volunteers please reach out to stewardship@parks.nyc.gov.
