Description: Join the NYC Parks Stewardship team to plant beachgrass (Ammophila breviligulata) at Coney Island Creek! Ammophila is the dominant coastal grass in our region, helping to build and stabilize front dunes. Because the grass primarily spreads by rhizome, we harvest bare-root plant material from the Greenbelt Native Plant Center production plots to replant into dune restoration projects. Volunteers should dress in clothes that can get dirty, close-toed shoes, and warm layers. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone. If you would like to register a group of 10 or more please email Stewardship@nyc.gov . This event has been funded in part by NYC Service.
