Description: Join an NYC Parks staffer and Master Naturalist on a fall plant walk in Idlewild Park, a unique mix of freshwater and tidal wetlands, woodland, meadow and grassland dune-scrub. Using Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide and Cornell’s Know Your Trees handbook, attendees will learn to identify both native and introduced species by their vegetative characteristics, plus explore the medicinal uses for which these plants have been prized. We will stay on trails and the walk will not be strenuous, but we will be walking for about an hour and a half, so please dress appropriately and bring water and a snack. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone. This event has been funded in part by NOAA. To sign up a group of 5 or more volunteers please reach out to stewardship@parks.nyc.gov.
