PARKIES SWIM THE HUDSON
5 Parkies swam the 2.4 mile race from Chelsea Piers to the North Cove Marina in Battery Park City on July 21. Nancy Barthold, Chris Osgood, Mike Szuflita, Ricardo Hinkle and Dorothy Bothwell donned their swimsuits and swam the race.
The race was sponsored by the Manhattan Island Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that brings the sport of marathon swimming to New York City's unique waterways. The organization, which celebrates the ongoing recovery of our city's rivers, works closely with Parks. Their signature event is the annual Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, one of the most important open-water marathons held on an annual basis anywhere in the world.

How Can I Help You" Does this guy look familiar? Maybe he’s offered you a hot cup
of coffee. Or, more likely, good people like you have been on the receiving
end of his now famous phone manner. Once he greets you, you’ll always remember
him. His name is Mathew Charles Matthews and he’s been with Parks since 1975.
Known throughout the Emerald Empire, Mathew is an engaging and unforgettable
presence at 5-Boro, whose motto is "count me in." Each morning he puts his jacket away and goes straight to his
desk to maintain our aptly named MCMS fleet system. Mathew nimbly works the
computer at work, tapping a lively beat second only to the sound of his never
far away drum sticks when he’s playing a tune in the evenings at Washington
Square Park. But, when a Parkie calls or visits, its showtime – as long as they’re
no space alien - and Mathew gets on his best behavior, whether they need his
help for ten minutes or all day. 5-Boro’s own public relations program, Mathew
treats everyone with courtesy, respect and resounding good cheer. This guy deserves
