NYC Parks and American Golf Cut Ribbon on Renovations to Historic Pelham and Split Rock Golf Courses

Commissioner Benepe today joined State Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., Council Member Joel Rivera, Council Member Annabel Palma, President of the Bronx Chamber Commerce Lenny Caro, Chairman of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce Joseph Kelleher, and American Golf’s Regional Director of Catering Matthew Silver to cut the ribbon on $10.8 million in renovations to the Pelham and Split Rock Golf Courses in Pelham Bay Park.

“Since the facility opened in 1901 as one of the nation’s earliest municipal courses, Pelham Bay and Split Rock Golf Courses have attracted golf enthusiasts from New York City and beyond,” said Commissioner Benepe. “We are grateful to American Golf for investing $10.8 million in the facility to enhance the visitor’s experience. With improved links, a new catering facility, pro shop, and an updated club house with stunning refurbished Art Deco murals, the historic Pelham and Split Rock Golf Courses are equipped to accommodate a new generation of golfers.”

Funded by American Golf Corporation, which operates the golf facility through a contract with the City, the $10.8 million project included major restorations to the club house including the veranda, the addition of a state of the art kitchen and food prep area allowing for seasonal catering, an addition to the restaurant and bar, a new pro shop, and the refurbishment of the Great Room with unique Art Deco murals. On the golf courses, new drainage and cart paths were installed, the tee boxes and greens were improved, and the sand traps were restored.
