This Weekend In Parks

Bronx

Come to the Orchard Beach Bath Courts this Saturday to see another Hoops in the Sun basketball game. Hoops in the Sun is a community-based basketball program held at Orchard Beach that provides a recreational activity for adults and youth, as well as a fun entertainment activity for beach-going spectators of all ages. This annual family-oriented event is the only summer-long “beachside” basketball league in the city.

Brooklyn

For the first time in New York, Slideluck Potshow will be venturing from the isle of Manhattan into Kings County. Come to McCarren Park this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for a chance to woo everyone with your tangy ceviche, your cool watermelon salad, your gorgonzola-stuffed and bacon-wrapped figs, your chicken-fried chicken, or your tequila-key lime pie. In turn, there will be some sweet BBQ action on-site. This will be Slideluck Potshow’s first outdoor potluck in NYC.

Queens

Come see the annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in Flushing Meadows Corona Park this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Treat yourself to terrific views of the Dragon Boat races from the park’s Meadow Lake, and enjoy cultural performances, demonstrations, and an international selection of food. This fun filled event continues on Sunday.

Manhattan

Dance the night away under the stars with music from one of New York's hottest dance bands on Hudson River Park's Pier 54. This weekend’s “MoonDance” will feature Salsa band Nu Guajiro. Free dance lessons begin at 6:30 p.m. courtesy of Dance Manhattan. Live bands go on at 7 p.m. No experience is necessary, just come to dance and have fun!

Staten Island

Bring your canine companion to the Dog Days of Summer Hike this Saturday at Blood Root Valley. Learn the trails on this moderate hike through the woods and make new two-legged and four-legged friends. Meet at Greenbelt Nature Center at 11:00 a.m. Register by calling (718) 351-3450.
