Nyc Parks Joins Community To Cut The Ribbon On Second Phase Of Renovations To Paerdegat Park

NYC Parks Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey today joined City Council Member Jumaane D. Williams, children and counselors from the East Flatbush Village summer camp, Barrington Barrett of Community Board 17, Vice President of Operations for Pathmark Roy Halpern, Assemblyman Nick Perry and local community members to cut the ribbon on the second phase of renovations to Paerdegat Park.

“Paerdegat Park is beloved in this Brooklyn community, and heavily used by people of all ages,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP. “Thanks to the generous funding of Council Member Williams, there are new features for everyone. Children can enjoy the brand new play equipment, while basketball lovers can shoot hoops on the newly restored courts. This dynamic space serves up a little of everything and now looks better than ever.”

“Our community deserves the best public spaces possible, so I am proud to announce that Paerdegat Park has received significant upgrades including a reconstructed basketball court, enhanced landscaping and expanded playground equipment that will be enjoyed by generations to come,” said Council Member Jumaane D. Williams (D-Brooklyn), Deputy Leader. “District 45 has some of smallest amount of park space in the city, and with no community center nearby it’s important to make significant investments toward each park we have. I am pleased to see the progress we’ve made thus far, and look forward to adding and enhancing more public spaces in our community to improve the safety, economy and wellbeing of all.”

This $1.65 million project was generously funded by City Council Member Jumaane Williams and included sidewalk paving and the planting of new trees to the park’s perimeter. In addition, the playground has doubled in size with new play equipment, pavement and safety surface, while the basketball court was completely reconstructed with new pavement, color seal coat, and Lexan backboards, along with lighting for evening play. New benches, chess, checker tables and domino tables, and landscaping give the entire park a fresh new look.

This project is part of Council Member Williams’ commitment to improve local parks for his constituents which include Wyckoff House, Harry Maze Playground, Nostrand Playground, Glenwood Playground, and Tilden Playground.
