NYC PARKS CUTS RIBBON ON $1.8 MILLION TRANSFORMATION OF OGDEN PLIMPTON PLAYGROUND

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP, today joined City Council Member Vanessa Gibson, Deputy Bronx Borough President Marricka Scott-McFadden, Community Board 4 District Manager Paul Philps and community members to cut the ribbon on the reconstruction of Ogden Plimpton Playground, a Community Parks Initiative (CPI) site. The new and improved playground was funded with $1.8 million from Mayor Bill de Blasio, Borough President Diaz Jr. and Council Member Gibson.

“Ogden Plimpton Playground, like all of the Community Park Initiative sites, was in great need of an update, and we are excited to unveil this transformed space,” said Commissioner Silver. “Thanks to the investment in this park, families and community members have a renewed space to play, relax, and enjoy their neighborhood for many years to come.”

One of 18 Bronx parks to be reconstructed under the CPI, Ogden Plimpton Playground now features a half-court basketball court, active play areas with safety surfacing for toddlers and kids aged five to twelve years old, a spray shower, picnic area, ADA accessible pathways, landscape improvements, and new fences.

Launched by Mayor de Blasio in October 2014, CPI strives to make NYC Parks a more equitable and accessible parks system by investing in smaller parks that are located in New York City’s densely-populated neighborhoods with higher-than-average concentrations of poverty. Through CPI, the City is investing $318 million in capital dollars to make renovations to 67 parks citywide that have not undergone significant improvements in decades.
