NYC PARKS CELEBRATES THE REOPENING OF NOBLE PLAYGROUND IN THE BRONX AFTER $2.5 MILLION RECONSTRUCTION

Renovation adds new play area, adult fitness equipment, safety lighting, and tree plantings

Today, NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue joined Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, State Senator Nathalia Fernandez, State Assemblymember Karines Reyes, Council Member Amanda Farias, and community members to celebrate the reopening of Noble Playground in the Bronx.

“We’re thrilled to unveil the reconstructed Noble Playground, an important recreation site for local residents for more than 80 years,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue. “Among the new amenities, an enhanced water play area and newly planted shade trees will help keep children cool during the summer months, while adult fitness equipment has been added here for the first time. We’re pleased to provide the community with a new, attractive, accessible, and safe recreation space that can be enjoyed by Bronxites for years to come.”

"I am excited to be celebrating the opening of its newly renovated Noble Playground with NYC Parks! Parks and playgrounds are essential spaces for our developing youth, offering them a place to socialize, exercise, and strengthen their cognitive skills,” said Council Member Amanda Farias. “These are the types of investments I hope to see throughout Council District 18 and the entire borough. I will continue working with my colleagues in government and our City agencies to service our residents and offer them the best quality of life possible."

Noble Playground has been completely reconstructed to include new play equipment, adult fitness equipment, and security lighting. An existing spray shower area was transformed to create a larger and more distinctive water play space. New plantings, including shade and ornamental trees, were also added. Colorful pavement invites visitors into the revamped playground, while innovative new play equipment was designed to be inclusive to visitors of all abilities. The project marks the first full renovation on the playground since 1954.

The $2.5 million project was made possible through funding by the New York City Council.

Created in 1939, Noble Playground was originally part of the Bronx River Parkway extension from Bronxville to Soundview. The park and the street are named after Alfred Noble, a city engineer. The site also includes basketball courts and a ballfield.
