NYC Parks Cuts The Ribbon On New Fitness Room At Lyons Pool Recreation Center
$140,000 in improvements and new equipment
NYC Parks Borough Commissioner Adena Long and Assistant Commissioner for Public Programs Annika Holder today cut the ribbon on a new fitness room at Lyons Pool Recreation Center with brand new equipment.
"We are pleased to offer this new and improved fitness experience for our recreation center members, and especially for Staten Island's North Shore community,” said Commissioner Long. “NYC Parks' recreation centers are a great bang for the buck, and now equipped with brand new cardio machines, there are no excuses for not getting fit!"
“The Department of Parks & Recreation is renewing our commitment to offering New Yorkers high quality, affordable fitness,” said Commissioner Holder. “Joining a recreation center gives you access to one of the best networks of facilities in the city, including indoor pools, running tracks and fitness rooms, all for 41 cents a day for adults. With 35 locations throughout the five boroughs, the best deal in town just got even better.”
In order to provide an optimal workout experience at Lyons Pool Recreation Center, Parks has built a new fitness room with new flooring and new equipment at an investment of nearly $140,000. The addition of the new cardio room provides more free space to enhance the workout experience, which now features a stretching area. By making these changes, Lyons is able to expand its offerings to better accommodate Recreation Center members.
The fitness room at Lyons received top-of-the-line cardio equipment, including steppers, recumbent and upright bikes, spin bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, a StepMill, and a rowing machine. Free Shape Up NYC fitness classes were offered throughout the morning.
Renovations were completed by Parks’ technical team and included carpentry, electrical, and plumbing upgrades and increased the size of the workout space for members.
Lyons Pool Recreation Center is open Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
