NYC PARKS CUTS RIBBONS ON TWO BROOKLYN RECONSTRUCTION PROJECTS IN EAST NEW YORK

Linden Park and Cypress Hills Playground underwent a combined $11 million transformation

NYC Parks Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Martin Maher today joined New York City Council Member Inez Barron, and community members to cut the ribbons on the new track and field at Linden Park and the new multipurpose synthetic turf field at Cypress Hills Playground in Brooklyn.

“It’s a good day in Brooklyn as we unveil these two key projects that offer opportunities for active recreation at Linden Park and Cypress Hills Playground. A huge thank you to City Council Member Barron and Assembly Member Charles Barron for helping us push these projects past the finish line. Through their advocacy and investment we have nearly $70 million in capital funding in various stages from design to construction in their district,” said Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Maher. “I know these communities, and the borough will benefit from the new amenities at both parks.”

The transformation for both parks total $11 million. The track and field reconstruction at Linden Park totaled $5 million; $3 million from Council Member Barron and $2 million from Mayor Bill de Blasio. The new synthetic turf multi-purpose field at Cypress Hills Playground was $6 million and was funded by a $5 million allocation from Council Member Barron, and $500, 000 from both Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Mayor de Blasio.

This project fully reconstructed the track and field and features a new Mondo track, synthetic turf field, new player benches, drinking fountain with bottle fillers, a new sport spray mister, and a new pull-up bar in the adult fitness area.

The $5 million project was jointly funded by Council Member Barron and Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Cypress Hills Playground
Upgrades to the field at Cypress Hills Playground include a synthetic turf multi-purpose athletic field, a new perimeter recreation path, and reconstructed dugouts. Additionally, the project includes new drinking fountains and misting stations.

The $6 million project was funded by Council Member Barron, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and Mayor de Blasio.

600+ COMPLETED CAPITAL PROJECTS
Parks announced recently the agency completed 648 capital projects since Commissioner Silver joined the agency in 2014: the administration has taken on more projects and has completed them faster—nearly 90% completed on budget and 85% on time. Through this, the agency has provided everyday New Yorkers access to 205 improved playgrounds and sports courts; 102 reconstructed paths & plazas; 39 new comfort stations; 36 athletic fields; and the agency has addressed infrastructure at 24 of its piers, waterfronts and retaining walls (and much more). Parks’ 10-year capital budget is $5.2 billion—the completed projects over the past five years represents a $1.3 billion investment.

NYC Parks’ capital division of nearly 500 staff, including more than 100 landscape architects, manages its capital projects from start to finish; designing approximately 70% of its landscape architecture projects in-house—of the 648 projects completed, 410 were landscape projects. Currently, the agency is managing 618 active capital projects: 149 are in construction; 246 are in procurement and 178 are in design.
