Windmuller Park Is June’s Park Of The Month

Just a month after opening its renovated facilities, Windmuller Park is a bustling hive of activity in Woodside, Queens. It is the perfect summer destination to beat the heat, enjoy a show, play a game of basketball or just relax in nature. Windmuller Park is located on 39th Drive between 52nd and 54th Streets.

“The renovated Windmuller Park is now home to a mix of athletic and cultural opportunities,” said Commissioner Adrian Benepe. “The brightly colored mini-pool and new open-air stage—the first in a Queens park—are sure to entertain for years to come, and the new exercise track and equipment will keep residents healthy. Windmuller Park is the epitome of a neighborhood park with something for everyone.”

From performances and a mini pool to basketball and an exercise track—the newly renovated Windmuller Park truly has something for everyone. The recent renovations included the construction of the new open-air stage, as well as new fencing and aqua-wave panels around the mini-pool.

The reconstruction also included a new multi-purpose asphalt field with basketball courts, new fencing, and exercise equipment. Surrounding the field is a fitness path. The comfort station was also renovated and is now ADA accessible and equipped with diaper changing tables. If all of that leaves you needing a rest, there are benches and game tables where you can sit and enjoy the new plantings that have been installed to beautify the park.

To even further enhance the park, Parks will be offering an ever-growing list of programming. This summer the park will be staffed with a Playground Associate who will plan children’s performances, fitness activities and recreational services for youth and families. Parks’ Mobile Fitness Van also visits the park every Thursday through August and offers “Boot Camp Abs” from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.

Windmuller Park is named after the prominent banker Louis Windmuller who built a mansion on the site. In 1936, Windmuller's children donated the family's land to the City to use as a park and it was developed shortly after under the Federal Works Progress Administration work relief project.
