NYC PARKS BREAKS GROUND ON TWO STATEN ISLAND RECONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Carlton Park and Ida Court Playground to undergo $2.1 million transformation

NYC Parks Staten Island Borough Commissioner Lynda Ricciardone today joined New York City
Council Member Joseph Borelli, Community Board 3 District Manager Charlene Wagner, and
community members to break ground on Carlton Park and Ida Court Playground. Both
transformations are funded by a $2.1 million allocation; with $1.5 million from Council Member
Joseph Borelli, $350,000 from the Parks Without Borders initiative, and $250,000 from Staten
Island Borough President James Oddo.

“The reconstruction of Carlton Park and Ida Court Playground are a testament to our commitment to improve green space in all communities in Staten Island,” said Commissioner Ricciardone. “I am excited to begin this process and look forward to hosting a ribbon cutting at these revamped sites in the near future.”

“It is great to see construction begin on Carlton Park and Ida Court Playground,” said Borough President Oddo. “I was happy to allocate taxpayer money for these projects that will benefit the Staten Island community for years to come and encourage people to be more active. Thank you to Council Member Borelli and the Parks Department for your help to get these reconstruction projects started.”

“I’m thrilled that work is underway to transform these two green spaces into more pedestrian and user-friendly neighborhood parks. Brand new swings, playground and picnic areas, and a basketball court are just some of the amenities that will be available to south shore residents when the upgraded parks open. The surrounding communities have been patient and I am so excited for them to have access to these new features in the near future. I’d like to thank Borough President Oddo for his support on these two parks and NYC Parks’ Staten Island Borough Commissioner Ricciardone for getting these projects through the design phase and into construction,” said Council Member Borelli.

Carlton Park
This project will completely transform Carlton Park, featuring a new playground and basketball court, and improved landscape enhancements. As part of the Parks Without Borders design elements perimeter fences will be lowered and the park will be made more welcoming with pedestrian paths and seating.

Ida Court Playground
Ida Court Playground will also undergo a full transformation with the installation of a new paved park entrance, swings, play equipment, picnic area, and seating. Similarly to Carlton Park, the redesign features Parks Without Borders design elements to improve access for the surrounding community.

Construction of both projects is expected to be complete in September 2019.
