NYC Parks today announced that a Request for Proposals (“RFP”) has been issued for the renovation, operation and maintenance of a cafe in Hunter’s Point South Park, a popular waterfront destination in Long Island City, Queens.
“Hunter’s Point South is a treasured waterfront gem that offers some of the best views of New York City,” said Queens Parks Commissioner Michael Dockett. “This is an amazing opportunity for qualified and experienced professionals to establish a fresh take on the in-park dining experience, and create a destination that will attract parkgoers and visitors for years to come.”
Hunter’s Point South is one of Queen’s newest parks, completed in 2018. The 30-acre park includes a central green, playgrounds, adult fitness equipment, a dog run, bikeway, waterside promenade, picnic terraces, basketball court, and 30-foot-tall cantilevered platform for viewing the skyline and waterfront. The cafe concession is located on a 13,000 square foot pavilion that contains comfort stations, and an elevated cafe plaza. The concession will include an adjacent outdoor space along the waterfront for events and programming.
NYC Parks envisions an outdoor cafe designed to provide high-quality service to patrons and enhance the ambiance of the park and surrounding areas. Proposers are required to submit a menu and price list that features a wide variety of options including diverse, low-cost items and healthy food choices.
Proposals will be evaluated based on several specific criteria listed in the RFP, including the planned operations for the cafe, the proposer’s operating experience, the plans for capital investment and design, the fee offered to the City, and the proposer’s financial capability.
In order to maintain a safe and contactless process, all proposers are encouraged to submit an electronic proposal no later than Friday, August 27, 2021 at 3 p.m. If unable to submit an electronic proposal, proposals must notify the Project Manager by Friday, August 20, 2021. Original hard copy proposals can be submitted to Parks’ Revenue Office on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 3 p.m., between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Parks will hold a virtual recommended meeting on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 2 p.m. All interested parties considering responding to this RFP are encouraged to attend the remote recommended meeting. Prospective proposers may join this meeting via WebEx and phone. Meeting details are as follows:
