American elmNear the Claremont Parkway and Crotona Park E entrance, on the northern side

Crotona Park is home to some of the most majestic and varied trees in the city, including this American elm located at the east corner of Claremont Parkway. The spreading canopy welcomes visitors to the park and provides ample shade for cooling down in the summer months. While its green leaves and wide canopy make this a great tree to picnic under during the hot summer months, don't miss visiting this stately elm in the fall when its leaves turn golden yellow.

Green ashSouth of the Prospect Ave. entrance, behind the playground

Nestled between the soccer field and the playground, this large green ash tree sits in the center of the pathway along passive lawn areas and rolling hills. Nominated for its commanding presence, you can't help but notice and admire this magnificent tree as you walk along the pathway. Green ash trees are native to North America and the leaves turn a beautiful golden-yellow in the autumn. It's becoming more rare to see ash trees around the city and beyond due to their susceptibility to infestation by the emerald ash borer. Parks is working to protect this tree through a robust treatment schedule to make sure it lives on for generations to come.
