NYC Parks Gets Newly Renovated Baseball Field At Claremont Park

On Saturday, April 23, 2016, NYC Parks First Deputy Commissioner Liam Kavanagh and Councilmember Vanessa L. Gibson joined New York Yankees Cy Young Award-winning pitcher and World Series champion CC Sabathia, and his wife Amber, to cut the ribbon at the newly reconstructed baseball field at Claremont Park.

The project was completed with $300,000 from the PitCCh in Foundation (PIF), a nonprofit organization co-founded by the Sabathia family. The renovation continues a neighborhood tradition of advocating for parks and offering additional opportunities for residents and community members to stay active.

“I am especially proud to see the transformation of Claremont Park and what it now represents for this community here in the Bronx,” said Bronx Parks Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa. “Now that it’s baseball season, the children in this neighborhood will get a chance to work on their swing and their glove, right here on this new field. And for this occasion, we are especially thankful to the Sabathia family and the PitCCh in Foundation for their contributions to this wonderful opportunity.”

“It's always been our goal to provide youth opportunities to be physically active and be their best through our efforts with the PitCCh In Foundation,” said CC and Amber Sabathia. “When we learned about the history behind Claremont Park it was an easy decision to focus our next baseball field renovation there. We are so proud and excited to unveil the field for the Rolando Paulino Little League's upcoming spring season. We owe a major thank you to the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation who stood by our sides and supported us through every step of this process. We hope the Bronx community will enjoy the new park for years to come.”

Throughout the years, Claremont Park has expanded its facilities to accommodate the needs of its community in and throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. Some of the amenities include basketball and handball courts, two playgrounds, a spray shower, and one of the borough’s more popular outdoor pools.
