Tree Identification: Buds, Blooms And Leaves With Will Thomson

Sharpen your tree identification skills and focus on emerging leaves, breaking buds, and seasonal flowers. The workshop will introduce some of the most common tree genera and species found on New York City streets and in its parks, including maples (Acer), lindens (Tilia), oaks (Quercus), and ashes (Fraxinus).

You’ll explore their branching structures, leaf patterns, flowers, and other key clues. To put your new skills to the test, the session will conclude with an instructor-led ID walk with Will Thomson, where you’ll practice recognizing trees in their natural settings. Wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty and comfy shoes!
