Located in the heart of Crown Heights, Brower Park has been an outstanding educational and recreational resource for children for over a century. Like most of Brooklyn, Brower Park combines a throwback feel with modern design. The flagship feature of the park is the Brooklyn Children's Museum, a bright yellow two-story building designed by architect Rafael Viñoly. Families can also try picnicing on the grassy lawn, or trying out the children's play areas. Older kids can enjoy the skate park and the two full-court basketball courts, and the entire neighborhood can enjoy the park's frequent events and activities.
With the assistance of the Friends of Brower Park, the community built a Monarch Butterfly Garden, and in 2016 dedicated Shirley Chisholm Circle, named for the social rights advocate and U.S. Congresswoman. The Shirley Chisholm commemorative stone with plaque sits on the west side of the circular terrace alongside a tree planted in her honor.
