In December 2022 the Flatbush African Burial Ground was transferred to NYC Parks. This area at the intersection of Bedford and Church Avenues is the location of a historical burial ground used by Flatbush’s African American community, including enslaved people, from the 17th to 19th century. For detailed history and archaeological reports, please see the site history at the Department of Housing Preservation and Development’s website. Prior to the transfer to NYC Parks, this location was being considered for siting an affordable housing development. Community members successfully advocated to protect the space from development and it will now be preserved as open space.

This map is designed to represent parks as they are used by the public. It should not be used to represent the legal boundaries of property under Parks jurisdiction. If you would like to view all City property under the jurisdiction of NYC Parks, please visit NYC OpenData.
