NYC PARKS AND STATE SENATOR JESSE HAMILTON PARTNER TO HOST SECOND ANNUAL BROOKLYN SENIOR GAMES

Week-long Series of Competitions for Senior Recreation Center Members runs through Saturday, May 13

NYC Parks and State Senator Jesse Hamilton today kicked off the second annual Brooklyn Senior Games, with a borough-wide torch relay. Taking off this morning from McCarren Recreation Center, seniors passing the torch made a stop at Brooklyn Borough Hall where they were cheered on by Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Martin Maher, State Senator Jesse Hamilton, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, New York Road Runners President and CEO Michael Capiraso, President of Events and Race Director of the TCS New York City Marathon Peter Ciaccia, and local community members. The torch relay will continue tomorrow, when seniors will make the last leg of the trip, ending with an opening ceremony at Brownsville Recreation Center.

This year’s competition will include shuffleboard, bowling, swimming, basketball, track and field, board games, table tennis, and pickleball; kicking off Monday, May 8th, and running until Friday, May 12th, with closing ceremonies on Saturday, May 13th.

Commissioner Maher will also join local Brooklyn elected officials on Tuesday, May 9th at 10:30 a.m. at Brownsville Recreation Center for a traditional cauldron lighting, speaking program and refreshments. A full schedule of competitions is included below.
