Workforce Development at NYC Parks

Parks Opportunity Program worker breaking branches

The NYC Parks Workforce Development unit partners with various city agencies to create employment programs for all New Yorkers.

Our signature program, the Parks Opportunity Program (POP), hires applicants referred by the Human Resources Administration/Department of Social Services to clean and green our parks, playgrounds, and other facilities citywide. These POP Workers receive orienting, on-the-job training, career coaching and specialized training opportunities during their 6 months of employment with NYC Parks. This support not only helps them to succeed while at our agency, but also helps them in their search for their next job.

Other programs administered by the NYC Parks Workforce Development unit include Green Applied Projects for Parks (GAPP), YouthWRAP, Youth Sustainability Corps (YSC- Green Roofs), and the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

If you are an HRA vendor seeking to refer clients to POP, please visit our Career Services Providers page for more information.
