The Greenbelt Native Plant Center (GNPC), a facility of the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, is a 13–acre greenhouse, nursery, and seed bank complex located on Staten Island, NY.
The following native species require full sun in order to reach their full flowering and fruiting potential. These species are intolerant to very intolerant of shade, needing an average of six hours direct sunlight a day. The moisture requirements vary from species to species, so it is essential that your chosen planting site is specific not only to the light requirements of each plant but also to the necessary moisture levels of the soil.
