Recently completed $4.59 million project improves active recreation and fitness amenities at Bronx park

NYC Parks has completed upgrades to bring a new skate park and adult fitness area to Seton Park in the Bronx.

"The new skate park and adult fitness area add even more amenities for users of Seton Park, a popular recreation site for Bronx residents of all ages. It means so much to deliver upgrades that this community has specifically requested, and to offer the first skate park in this area of the Bronx,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue. “We’re grateful to the Mayor’s Office, City Council, Bronx Borough President, and DASNY for funding this project and helping to ensure our public spaces are vibrant, safe, attractive, and more accessible for all.”

A $4.59 million capital project constructed a new skate park with both street and bowl elements designed to accommodate any age and skill level. The new adult fitness area includes a variety of equipment including glass fiber-reinforced concrete playground boulders that allow park users of all ages to exercise without using traditional equipment. In addition, there are on-ground markings for agility and cardio workouts and a new multi-use space for kids to run and play.

The project also added new tree plantings for shade during summer months, benches for seating, ramps for ADA access to different levels of the park, lighting, trash receptacles, and a water fountain with bottle filler.

Completed in December 2024, the project was funded by the City Council, Bronx Borough President, Mayor’s Office, and a state grant from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.

Once the site of a tuberculosis hospital operated by the Sisters of Charity, Seton Park opened in the mid-1970’s and is named for Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton (1774-1821). The park also features soccer and baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts, and a playground.
