Youth Baseball and Youth Softball League AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Training Schedule

All youth baseball and youth softball leagues that use an athletic field permit issued by NYC Parks are now required by City law to have both an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and a person who has completed a nationally recognized AED training course present at all times for both games or practices. Before you can pick up an AED device from us, you must first have completed your training.

Free NYC Parks AED Training Class Certification

We are offering training courses at no cost to youth baseball and youth softball league officials. Each league may receive training for up to two officials per team. Once your training is complete, the AED certification is valid for 24 months, and it must be renewed after it expires. Please check the schedule below to sign up for an upcoming class.

League Requirements

Any youth baseball and youth softball league playing on an NYC Parks field must comply with the local law. This includes any league with participants who are all 17 years old or younger, including public school leagues, little leagues, and community-based organization leagues.

On-Site AED Training Classes

If your league has a dedicated space that can be used for AED and CPR training purposes, you can request a trainer to visit your location. To do so, please email youthbaseballAED@parks.nyc.gov. Your training location will need to accommodate at least 15 adult participants, and there will need to be chairs and tables for each participant. In addition, each location will need to be equipped with either a television or a projector.

Other Certifications

We also accept most certifications from AED training provided by a nationally recognized organization or the State Emergency Medical Services Council. Please email us at youthbaseballAED@parks.nyc.gov if you have any questions about your certification is valid. We will not be able to reimburse leagues for the cost of AED courses taken outside of the courses listed here in our registration schedule.

AEDs In Operation

If you must use your AED, please call 911 immediately and continue to tend to the individual in distress. After the incident, please notify our Central Communication Unit by calling (646) 613-1200. Also, please report the incident to Philips, the device manufacturer, by calling (888) 259-4332.

Lost or Stolen AED Devices

If your AED device has been stolen, you must first file a police report with the local NYPD precinct in which the incident took place. You will then need to report the AED stolen to us by calling 212-360-3400 or emailing youthbaseballAED@parks.nyc.gov.

Your league may be responsible for the replacement costs of the device, but we will determine that on a case-by-case basis.
