Parks photographer Malcolm Pinckney documents the Van Cortlandt House Museum's commemoration of the 225th Anniversary of George Washington's triumphant return to New York, marking the official end of the Revolutionary War. On his way down from his temporary headquarters in Newburgh, Washington spent the night in Kingsbridge at the Van Cortlandt's house. At this exciting, educational event, Washington's arrival with his mounted escort unit was reenacted as well as his departure from New York for the formal hand-over of Manhattan from the British.
