Without backyards of their own, many New Yorkers have had to improvise and create games to play over the decades. This history of game-playing in streets and in parks has been documented by our archivist. Through this legacy of innovation comes NYC Parks' Annual Street Games competition, which brings back these classic games and introduces them to a new generation with a modern twist.
