On May 3, 2013, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey were joined by former NYC Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, Adam Yauch’s parents, Noel and Frances Yauch, Council Member Stephen Levin and Beastie Boy Adam "Adrock" Horovitz to rename Palmetto Playground in Brooklyn Heights to Adam Yauch Park in honor of the late founder of the hip-hop group Beastie Boys. Yauch was a Brooklyn native who grew up playing in the playground that now bares his namesake. In addition to being a rapper, Yauch was also a musician, film director, and human rights activist.
