The newly renovated McCarren Pool and Play Center opened on June 28, 2012. McCarren pool originally opened in 1936 as one of the eleven giant Works Progress Administartion pools to open thorughout the city that same summer. After a 50 million dollar makeover the pool is the first of eight PlaNYC regional parks projects to be completed. The new McCarren pool preserves the historic bathhouse and entry arch and creates a brand new swimming pool and recreation center.
