A pleasant and quiet sitting area surrounded by trees, Wood Park in Parkchester is named for one of New York City's more controversial figures, Mayor Fernando Wood. This parkland was acquired during the construction of the neighboring Cross-Bronx Expressway, and was opened to the public on July 21, 1956.
