NYC PARKS CUTS THE RIBBON ON A BRAND NEW SKATE PARK AT THE WILLIAMSBRIDGE OVAL

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP, today joined New York City Council Member Andrew Cohen, New York State Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz, Parks Chair for Community Board 7 Barbara Stronczer, and community members to cut the ribbon on the brand new Williamsbridge Oval Skate Park.

“We know how important this new skate park is for the Norwood community, and I’m so proud to officially cut the ribbon on it,” said Commissioner Silver. “Thanks to a generous investment from Mayor de Blasio and Council Member Cohen, the Williamsbridge Oval now has a beautiful new skate park which will be enjoyed by the community for many years to come.”

“This is a very exciting day for Williamsbridge Oval Park, the Norwood community, and most of all- local skateboarders!” said NYC Council Member Andrew Cohen. “This idea was proposed to me by a group of young local skateboarders that had a need and saw the perfect space. I am proud to have allocated $750,000 in funding to this project and I appreciate the additional funding that Mayor de Blasio has contributed to bring this much needed amenity to this area of the Northwest Bronx.”

Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz said: “It is so important to have outdoor recreational space that meets the wants and needs of people in this city. I am very excited that the new skate park in Williamsbridge Oval is finally open and ready for use by local residents who have been clamoring for a place to skate for many years. Oval Park is one of the best parks in the city, and it wonderful to see the steady improvements that have been made in recent years. Thank you to the Parks Department as well as my colleagues in government, particularly Council Member Andrew Cohen, who made sure this project was funded and completed.”

The new Williamsbridge Oval Skate Park was designed with input from members of the local skateboarding community to serve users with a broad range of skills. The newly constructed skate park features stairs with quarter pipes on either side; half-bowls; a manual pad; a wedge with rail, and more!

This $977,000 project was funded by a $227,000 allocation from Mayor Bill de Blasio, and $750,000 from New York City Council Member Andrew Cohen.
