Thomas Jefferson Park was transformed this past Saturday for NYC Parks’ annual Street Games festival. New Yorkers of all ages took part in classic games and activities such as double dutch, pogo sticks, hula hoops, and a box car derby. Now in its 13th year, Street Games inspires kids to take a break from electronics and get up, get outside, and get active.
NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue attended the East Harlem event. “Street Games is all about bringing back the classic outdoor games played for generations in the streets and parks of New York City,” said Commissioner Donoghue. “Thanks to activities led by PitCCh In Foundation, the New York Knicks, and the New York Rangers, and support from all our sponsors and partners, this community event filled Thomas Jefferson Park with retro low-tech fun for all ages!”
Canceled the past two years due to COVID-19, Street Games returned this year with an array of free outdoor activities. The event featured baseball pitching with PitCCh In Foundation, basketball skills and drills hosted by the New York Knicks, and street hockey with the New York Rangers. Kids also spent the afternoon playing Lemon Twist and Hippity Hop, practicing their handball and skateboarding skills, and more.
Street Games 2022 is sponsored by the PitCCh In Foundation, the New York Knicks, the New York Rangers, and Volo Kids Foundation among others.
NYC Parks produces a series of annual, large-scale festivals that provide unique, outdoor experiences for thousands of New Yorkers year-round. In addition to Street Games (Spring), these include Adventures NYC (Summer), Bronx Fit Fest (Fall) and Winter Jam NYC (Winter).
