NYC Parks First Deputy Commissioner Liam Kavanagh, Councilmember Ben Kallos, WABC Meteorologist Amy Freeze, and representatives from the New York Knicks, New York Liberty, New York Red Bulls, and New York Empire professional sports teams join the community at Street Games 2014, which brings back classic, low-tech games.

Street Games, presented by NYC Parks and The Walt Disney Company, brings back the classic games and sports played by previous generations and gives them a modern twist. New Yorkers young – and young at heart – can visit our Classic Street Games zone and get moving with stickball, pogo sticks, hula hoops, double-dutch, yo-yos, and skateboarding clinics.

Street Games closes 114th Street and Pleasant Avenue just north of the park to vehicle traffic, so kids can participate in a soap box derby, learn to ride a bike clinics, street hockey, and relay races. On the adjacent fields, participants can test their soccer skills with the New York Red Bulls soccer team or throw a disc with the New York Empire ultimate team.

Street Games is more than just games – Radio Disney will be spinning music all day and there will be live music and entertainment, including several performances by the Dance Theater of Harlem. MillionTreesNYC's Spring Stewardship Day

Thousands of volunteers from all five boroughs will join NYC Parks' Million Trees NYC and the Natural Areas Conservancy to help care for 20,000 newly planted trees in parks and natural areas during spring’s largest stewardship day.

Volunteers will be trained in tree care techniques, including adding mulch and identifying and removing invasive weeds.

As part of MillionTreesNYC, Parks is reforesting 2,000 acres of parkland to create new, ecologically healthy, multi-story forests. New forests help expand canopy cover in NYC, increasing the myriad environmental benefits already provided by our urban forest.

Planting is just the first step to creating healthy new forests. This spring's restoration day will focus on stewardship and caring for young trees that have already been planted.

NYC Parks will be joined by the Natural Areas Conservancy, a non-profit organization that was formed to restore and preserve the natural areas of New York City, including forests and wetlands, to enhance the lives of all New Yorkers.
