Chicago dance-pop duo Gilligan Moss headline concert at Beach 94th Street Plaza—Friday, August 17th
NYC Parks and City Parks Foundation (CPF) announce that famed New York City SummerStage concert series is headed to Rockaway Beach Waterfront for the first time, headlined by Gilligan Moss, Friday, August 17. Held at Beach 94th St., this free show will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The SummerStage concert, put on with support from NYC Parks, will take advantage of the new plaza area at Beach 94th Street that was created as part of the full reconstruction of the Rockaway Boardwalk. This is the first time that SummerStage, New York City’s largest free outdoor performing arts festival, is coming to Rockaway Beach boardwalk.
Chicago dance-pop duo Gilligan Moss, comprised of childhood friends Evan and Ben, has a distinct style that fills the cracks between several genres -- they are drawn to strange melodies, polyrhythmic percussion, and driving basslines. The project began when Evan released solo music to Soundcloud and caught a buzz with his single “Choreography” and a remix of Glass Animals’ “Gooey”. He asked Ben to join him on the road in support of Glass Animals in late 2015, thus setting the stage for the duo to begin writing and producing together. Their EP What Happened is due out on August 23rd.
City Parks Foundation’s SummerStage is New York City’s largest free outdoor performing arts festival, bringing more than 100 performances to Central Park and 17 neighborhood parks throughout the five boroughs. This year’s festival, presented by Capital One, will showcase over 200 unique artists hailing from New York City and around the globe, performing shows across a diversity of genres and disciplines, including indie-rock, hip-hop, Latin, jazz, R&B, salsa, opera, contemporary dance, and spoken word.
