CITY HALL IN YOUR BOROUGH: NYC PARKS UNVEILS 3.1 MILLION RENOVATION OF PULASKI PARK IN THE BRONX

Today, as part of City Hall In Your Borough, NYC Parks Bronx Borough Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa joined State Senator Jose M. Serrano, Representatives for City Council Member Diana Ayala, Representatives for Assembly Member Amanda Septimo, and community members to unveil the brand-new renovations to Pulaski Park in the Bronx.

“Pulaski Park has undergone a tremendous transformation, and I’m so proud that we were able to unveil it to the community during City Hall In Your Borough,” said Parks Bronx Commissioner Rodriguez-Rosa. “Thanks to support from Mayor de Blasio and Councilwoman Ayala, the Port Morris community will be able to enjoy the brand new amenities at Pulaski Park for years to come.”

“As we emerge from the extraordinary challenges of the pandemic, I am proud to have contributed funding toward the reconstruction of the sports courts and the tot lot at Pulaski Park. These renovations were long overdue, and now children of all ages and their families will now enjoy and create lasting joyful memories, which is why I am elated to celebrate in today’s ribbon cutting;” said Council Member Ayala. “This has been a labor of love for not only me but also for the community who participated in the many park designing sessions and I want to thank Mayor Bill de Blasio for his partnership in making Pulaski Playground a new recreational experience for the residents of Port Morris and the South Bronx community.”

The $3.1 million Pulaski Park reconstruction project has completely renovated the multi-purpose asphalt sports field and reconstructed the existing basketball courts at the site. A new play unit with safety surfacing, swings and a spray shower have also been added, providing a new play space for children of all ages. In addition, the project has also added new pavements, water service and drainage utilities, park security lighting, fences, benches, plants, and more!

The $3.1 million project was funded with $1.36 million from Mayor Bill de Blasio, and $1.75 million from City Council Member Diana Ayala.

800+ COMPLETED CAPITAL PROJECTS
Under the leadership of Commissioner Silver, since 2014 NYC Parks has completed more than 800 capital projects across the five boroughs, advancing the City’s mission to build a more equitable park system for present and future generations. Under this administration, the agency has brought our park system into the 21st century, with guidelines focused on resiliency and access and leading with a data-driven approach to increasing park equity. Parks has also improved its capital process in order to take on more projects and complete them faster. Through these strategies, the agency has reimagined how we invest in parks across the city, including those in communities with the greatest need for open-space improvements that had not seen investment in decades. Parks’ 10-year capital budget is $5.2 billion—the completed projects over the past seven years represents a $1.96 billion investment.
