Ocean Breeze Park

NYC Parks is pleased to announce the release of the 2015-2016 Track & Field schedule for the new Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex on Staten Island. Highlighted by an array of prestigious meets, the 2015-2016 season will include meets that are hometown favorites along with exciting regional and national-level competitions. This will mark the inaugural track season of NYC Parks’ new 135,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art indoor track and field facility. The elite-level hydraulically-banked competition track will be able to be converted from eight to six lanes, can incline up to 4.5 feet, and will have commanding views of the nearby Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the Freedom Tower in lower Manhattan. The facility will be complete with cutting-edge field event areas, timing systems, and a warm-up area that will feature fitness and cardio rooms.

“NYC Parks is excited to announce the 2015-2016 schedule for the very first track and field season at the new Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex,” said Ocean Breeze Park Administrator Lauren Primerano. “Athletes from Staten Island, New York City, and from across the country will soon get to experience this world-class facility that is fast becoming a premier destination for athletic events.”

The track season will kick off on December 5, 2015 with the Staten Island Relays followed by the Metro Holiday College Season Opener that afternoon. The 62nd Annual Bishop Loughlin Games will take place the following week which is the oldest and largest high school meet in the country.

Additional high school meets coming to Ocean Breeze this year include the Ocean Breeze Holiday Festival, Ocean Breeze Relays, Ocean Breeze Invitational, Staten Island Championships, CHSAA Intersectional Championships, and the PSAL Freshman/Sophomore Championships.

The facility will welcome elite-level college competitions as well including the Gotham Cup, Great Dane Classic, Villanova Invitational, the Princeton Harvard Yale Tri-Meet, along with various conference championships including the Big East Conference, East Coast Athletic Conference, ECAC Division III Championships, and the Northeast Athletic Conference, to name a few.

Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex will also be providing a dynamic youth series that will kick off on December 27, 2015 with the Youth Holiday Jam. The youth series will then welcome three additional meets leading up to the USA Track & Field New York Youth Championships. Ending the season on a high note the track will also play host to the 2016 USA Track & Field Hershey Youth Indoor Championships.
