Eastern redbudMsgr. McGolrick Park, west of the playground

This beautiful eastern redbud located west of the playground at Msgr. McGolrick Park has a very interesting structure. It looks like an umbrella and has low bendy branches that attract children who want to use it as playground equipment. This tree is a living homage to the joy, energy and weirdness of nature. In the spring, it's bursting with pink buds; in autumn, its undulating branches are exposed. This tree is located on a major pathway, and pedestrians often stop to appreciate its unique form and beauty. Legend has it that a former gardener for the park fostered a relationship with horticulturalists at Prospect Park, where they agreed to take the unwanted trees from their seasonal plan orders. A true underdog story!
