Black tupeloMid-park, visible from W Mosholu Parkway North

This black tupelo is an important gathering space for members of the Mosholu Teaching Forest community, a 20-acre forest located next to the 4 train. Community volunteers focus on vine removal, dumpsite remediation, and trash pickup. Their goal is to expand the canopy, build the trail, increase biodiversity, and connect the landscape to the area's schools as a site for outdoor education. Park stewards and volunteers use this tree as their meeting space, and they have protected the tree from getting smothered by the persistent vines growing nearby.
