Osage orangeSouthwest corner of Marcus Garvey Park

Located on the southwest corner of Marcus Garvey Park, this osage orange tree has a unique twisting trunk. This tree was referenced in a public art project that was exhibited in Conference House Park in Staten Island called Tree Reflections. The piece, by Susan Stair, consisted of clay tiles that were cast from this osage orange tree which was located near the artist's home in Harlem. She was particularly attracted to the tree's remarkable patterns, bending forms, and endurance that demonstrated the unique historical importance of this particular species.
