Whether you are a tourist looking to rest after exploring the Financial District or you are looking for a spot to take your lunch break, head to this mini park on Wall Street where there are benches, shade, and plantings that offer a respite from the busy Lower Manhattan area.

A glass fountain on the South Street side of the park is a gift to the City of New York from Deutsche Bank in recognition of the bank’s employees who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, as well as a testament to the enduring spirit of the citizens of New York. Unfortunately, the fountain was damaged during Hurricane Sandy. There is currently an active Capital Project to reconstruct the fountain.

Before it became known as Manhattan, the island was called Mannahatta by the Lenape, who were the original inhabitants of New York City and the surrounding territory. Mannahatta is also a poem by Walt Whitman (1819-1892).
