NYC PARKS COMMEMORATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF PRIDE MARCH WITH NEW CELEBRATORY SIGNAGE

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the New York City Pride March, NYC Parks today unveiled new signage featuring the colors of the new, inclusive pride flag in four parks along various routes the parade has taken over 50 years: Washington Square Park, Union Square, Madison Square Park, Grand Army Plaza and Central Park. The signage provides a sense of unity that commemorates the history and legacy of the LGBTQIA+ movement and community in New York City.

“As the birthplace of the modern LGBTQ movement, Pride has become a part of New York City’s identity,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP. “Although we won’t be able to march in person this year, NYC Parks is proud to honor the strength and resiliency of the LGBTQIA+ community with this bright and colorful signage that reflects our commitment to social equality and individuality.”

Temporary signs will be placed in the following locations from Wednesday, June 10, through Tuesday, July 7:

Grand Army Plaza (Central Park); 5th Ave and Central Park South (2 signs)

Madison Square Park (4)

• E26th and 5th Ave
• W25th and 5th Ave
• Broadway between W24th and E23rd
• Broadway and E23rd

Union Square Park Entrances (3)

• E16th and Union Square West
• E15th and Union Square West
• E14th and Union Square West

Washington Square Park Entrances (3)

• 5th Ave and Washington Square North (2 signs)
• Washington Square North and MacDougal Street

The Pride signage was designed by NYC Parks’ creative team and fabricated by NYC Parks’ sign shop. Additionally, Pride flags will fly from the flagpoles in Madison Square, Union and Washington Square Parks.
